Hand hygiene auditor training for a standardized approach

Infection, prevention, and control (IPC) focal points from Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, Kiribati, and Solomon Islands successfully completed a 10-hour hand hygiene Gold standard auditors training. They are now recognised as the first cohort of IPC focal points in the Pacific as Hand Hygiene Australia (HHA) Gold Standard Compliance Auditors & Assessors, and are now able to train general auditors making the program more sustainable at country level.

The training was held virtually during the first week of April and was facilitated by Kate Ryan, HHA Manager and Program coordinator.

PGCFE Refresher Training for Fiji

The PGCFE course under the SHIP-DDM capacity development program was started in Fiji back in 2019.The Fiji cohort completed Modules 1,2 and 3 between 2019-2020.However due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the course was on hold temporarily. This refresher training is being implemented to review the important topics from the previous three modules before progressing to the final two modules of the course.

Last month, the Pacific Community (SPC) supplied 20 Hamilton ventilators to 11 Pacific Islands Countries and Territories (PICTs). These ventilators will enable PICTs to manage critically ill patients that need respiratory care.

PICTs receiving these ventilators are the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, the Republic of Marshall Islands, the Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
