SPC, as the focal point of the PPHSN Coordination Body, maintains PacNet, the alert and communication platform of the Pacific Public Heath Surveillance Network (PPHSN) since its inception in April 1997. PacNet connects more than 1000 health professionals from the Pacific and beyond and facilitates information sharing between all Pacific Island countries and territories. More specifically, it allows rapid overall communication, early warnings for epidemic threats, and consequently makes it possible to raise awareness and preparedness levels in the Pacific region.
More than 16100 alerts and reports related to outbreak-prone diseases were posted on PacNet since its creation in 1997.
We also produce weekly reports and maps showing providing information and alerts related to epidemic and emerging diseases circulating in or threatening the Pacific. The reports and maps are widely disseminated to all PPHSN members through PacNet.
Pacific health professionals can subscribe to PacNet by sending a message to FocalPointPPHSN-CB [at] spc.int (FocalPointPPHSN-CB[at]spc[dot]int)
