Epidemiology training | SPC Public Health Division
Our SPC programme, in collaboration with partners of the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN), strives to develop capacity of the Pacific Island countries and territories in the area of data analysis, surveillance, epidemiology and operational research through Strengthening Health Interventions in the Pacific – Data for Decision Making (SHIP-DDM) programme.
The SHIP-DDM programme is a 3-tier capacity development programme:
Postgraduate Certificate in Field Epidemiology (PGCFE),
Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Epidemiology, and
Masters in Applied Epidemiology.
All three programmes are accredited by Fiji National University (FNU).
The first level of the SHIP programme, known as the Data for Decision Making or DDM (now the Postgraduate Certificate in Field Epidemiology), caught a lot of interest in the region. Epidemiology), caught a lot of interest in the region.
More than 365 health officers from 17 Pacific Island Countries and Territories have completed at least one module of this course at the end of 2023.
SHIP builds on the principle ‘from work, at work, for work’.
